I have a dear friend who has survived at least three traumatic situations. For some reason, I'm the one who she feels she can confide in. For 18 months, I've been on a roller coaster with her, but I think I'm starting to see it flatten out. Your articles are helpful. I'm scared and nervous to continue but I don't feel I have a choice. I especially like/need articles about being the helper to the trauma survivor.

Hi Patience,I read both your and Roberts books several years ago and they helped. We got a local library to get the audios of your books in unabridged form. Have you and Nate Self been in touch? If you have never heard of him, google him. You both may be of help to each other. I just finished his amazing book, as well as Operation Homecoming. You must feel like the startup person of this increasing awareness of PTSD, in modern times. Thank you!!!

Please don't put your email when you post. You can email me at ptg at patiencepress dot com if you need an answer. We are having a problems with people being harassed after they post.

how many ways can i say thank you to Patience for helping guide me in the ways to answer softly to my Vet. to think before i speak or write. to know when he says he's sorry that he means it and that:

The stupid neither forgive nor forget,
The naive forgive and forget,
The wise forgive but do not forget.

anyways, thanks Patience - you are always helpful. i have learned the whole of what you write (and live), not just a piece of it here and there.

i was wondering if you sell Recovering from the War : A Guide for All Veterans, Family Members, Friends and Therapists

Admin reply: Yes, there is a bookstore on the website where you can buy it, as well as other things I have written since. There is a tab at the top of the Patiencepress page. I only take paypal, but you can use a credit card on paypal if you don't have an account.

I am the wife of an Iraq war Veteran. Eventhough we have only been dealing with PTSD and TBI for about 3 years that's 3 years to many. This site has given me a glimps of sunshine. Thank you so much.

Admin reply: Glad to hear it.
I hope you will check out the two yuku.com sites I mentioned below.

I hate the people who hurt me.

Admin reply: The anger part of PTSD is based in our innate sense of justice. What happened to you was wrong, the people who did it were wrong, and you know it (although they usually try to blame it on you). I think hate helps people who were traumatized feel more powerful, and no one can make you not hate. I don't even think that is required for recovery. Let whatever higher power there is forgive them. You don't have to.

I am the wife of a Vietnam Veteran. We have been married for 42 years and at times I wonder will life with this man ever be smooth.
I know I am not alone but still feel this way often, I don't share all how I feel and what I have endured with any of my friends, somehow this seems so disloyal to my husband. If I were to share some episode of his strange actions or his reactions, it could change how he is viewed or treated by them and this seems unfair. They don't understand the whole story or the reasons for such behavior. How do any of you deal with this?

Admin reply: There is a group for wives of PTSD veterans at
http://livingwithpt sd.yuku.com. We have wives from many different wars and deployments. I am a member there and at http://cptsdathome.yuku.c om.
Another good resource is http://www.notalone.com.& lt; br>There are also some vet wives groups where members are not so supportive, but these three are.
It is hard to deal with this alone. The other thing I personally do is work a 12 step program on myself, the one for people who like to believe they know what other people should do... Working the steps has helped me a lot.
I have posted this twice and the guestbook won't let me take out the space between pt and sd in the living with ptsd link, nor can I remove the <br> from after not alone, so if you go to these sites, please correct them yourself.
Patience

I have read you book several times in the past, and it was very helpful. It helped me understand what I was feeling and gave me a deeper undestanding of what was going on with my husband.
He was in Vietnam in "66-67" on a tank. I lost the copy of the book I had so someone else bought me a copy. I showed this to a VA person that thought it was very good and so I ordered a couple of copies of it for him.
Thanks so much
Barbara

Admin reply: I am glad you find it helpful. Hope you read the other free stuff on the site since it was all written after the book and has some new ideas.
